Measure Stretch
The Stretch & Shear Properties page of the Fabric Wizard allows you to perform measurement of stretch and shear properties using the automatic measurement cycle provided by the connected Mark-10 Tension Meter.
Note: Prior to the measurement make sure that the tension meter is connected; the connection indicator icon located in the bottom right corner of the application window should appear as green.
To perform stretch testing:
-
Clamp specimen in grips. The clamping of the specimen should be performed in such a way that the length of the specimen part located between two grips is equal to the specified value of the Rest Length.
Important: Perform specimen clamping according to clamping rules.
-
Once the specimen is clamped in grips, in Fabric Meter application click the button related to the measured fabric property to start the automatic measurement cycle.
During the stretch testing, the upper grip moves upwards with the constant velocity (specified in Fabric Meter Settings). The measurements are performed at high sample rate reaching the maximum level of 100 measurements per second. A single “atomic” measurement consists of the pair of the actual position of the upper grip and corresponding value of the force measured by the force gauge. Measurements are performed until the maximum allowed load (15kN) is detected. Once the force limit is reached, the upper grip retracts downwards to the initial position.
In the result of the testing, a list of acquired raw measurement values is available. Typically, for stretchable fabrics, the list includes 150-200 measured force/position pairs. For rigid fabrics, there are 30-40 force/position pairs are available.
Note:Each specimen can be used only once. Specimen reuse is not allowed because after applying on it a strong force it is permanently deformed.
3. Once the measurement cycle is performed, measured raw data is displayed within the corresponding table. The respective Stretch value is automatically calculated and displayed within the corresponding edit box.

In the same manner, perform the measurement of specimens cut for other directions.
