Fabric Management Overview

While designing apparel or other textile products using CAD tools, the fabric should be taken into consideration. The availability of fabric definition as an integral part of a product design provides you with the ability to realistically simulate the product behavior under various circumstances. In simple words, the fabric definition is a significant element allowing you to create a proper and accurate design and verify it through the simulation.

Optitex provides  various tools allowing you to manage your fabrics:

  • Fabric Meter. This application allows you to comprehensively define your fabrics and manage them. The application allows you to create and manage fabrics and fabric libraries as well as perform fabric properties testing.

  • PDS-3D. The PDS-3D solution provides an embedded subset of Fabric Meter tools dedicated for utilization and management of fabrics and fabric libraries.

Important: Fabric Meter is a separate utility that needs to be installed either independently as standalone application or along with the full Optitex installation. In a case of running Fabric Meter as a standalone application, a license is required to launch the application and obtain its full functionality including the fabric testing capability. In a latter case of launching Fabric Meter functionality from PDS environment, the special license is not required. However, in this case the fabric testing functionality is not available. Contact your Optitex representative, if you encounter any issues or if you need to request the license.

  • FTU (Fabric Testing Unit). Hardware and software platform allowing you to perform the measurement of fabric physical properties, such a stretching or bending

Note: Optitex can test woven or knitted materials for the apparel industry. Some selected artificial or natural materials are supported for other industries. Please consult  your Optitex contact prior to testing.
