Friction

The Fabric Meter application provides you with the ability to specify the coefficient of fabric friction.

The slider provides you with the ability to specify the friction value incrementally from 0.05 to 0.95 with an increment of 0.15. This means that the slider provides you with 7 tick marks (0.05; 0.2; 0.35; 0.5; 0.65; 0.8; 0.95).

The lower values of the Friction describe cases of better sliding fabrics with the composition based on polyester, viscose, silk and nylon (e.g., silk organza, chiffon and batiste), and with a low level of surface roughness.

The recommended range for these values is 0.05 – 0.35. The friction of most fabrics where the composition is based on cotton or polyester with an intermediate level of roughness is located in the range of 0.5-0.65 (denim, corduroy, twill). Higher values of friction (0.8-0.95) describe cases of less sliding fabrics (hard leather, heavy linen, fleece), with a high level of surface roughness.
